serves as Georgia State’s wide
receivers coach after joining head coach

Colbert spent a total of six years in
the NFL, four of them with the Carolina
Panthers, who selected him in the second
round of the 2004 NFL Draft. In 2004, he
set Carolina rookie records for receptions
(47), receiving yards (754) and receiving
touchdowns (5) in a season. The following
year, he helped the Panthers reach the
2005 NFC Championship game.
“Keary Colbert is an excellent addition
to our staff,” Miles said. “He is extremely
knowledgeable as someone who played
the wide receiver position at the highest
level, both in college and then in the NFL.
“He will be unbelievable in teaching
these young men the fundamentals and
techniques of the receiver position,”
continued Miles. “He has the ability to
motivate a young man to perform, and
with his ability to relate to players, I think
he will be an outstanding recruiter.”
Colbert played for three NFL teams
in 2008 – the Denver Broncos, Seattle
Seahawks and Detroit Lions. He was with
the Florida Tuskers of the United Football
League in 2009 and then returned to the
NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2011.
Colbert began his coaching career
as a graduate assistant at his alma mater,
Southern California, in 2010, working
with the tight ends. Following that
season, USC tight end Jordan Cameron
was selected in the fourth round of the
2011 NFL Draft.
ACalifornia native, Colbert was a prep
All-American at Hueneme High School
in Oxnard. He went on to a standout
career at USC, where he finished as the
Trojans’ all-time leader in receptions
(207) while gaining 2,964 receiving yards
and catching 19 touchdown passes in
his career. He was a key member of the
Trojans’ 2003 Associated Press national

championship team, catching 69 passes
for 1,013 yards with nine touchdowns.
As a senior, he was a team captain, won
USC’s Most Inspirational Award, earned
All-Pac-10 honors and was selected to
play in the Senior Bowl.
Colbert earned his bachelor’s degree
in sociology from USC in 2006. He has
one son, Kaden.
